My dad/grandkids' birthdays

February Journaling

1.    My sweet grandson is six years old today!

2.    So if the groundhog sees his shadow, does that mean we have six more weeks of lockdown?

3.    Started my Dr. Bernstein diet today. I hope it works. Starting at 182 pounds.

4.    The first day of my diet, since I went from four cups of coffee to one, I had a headache, but after that I was fine. The first two days you can have extra servings of protein or vegetables so that made the transition easier.  I’m not really feeling hungry.

5.    Shocking, just starting my third day and already lost 3.5 pounds and three inches. I check my urine for ketones and I’m starting to show trace amounts so that means I’m burning fat. That’s encouraging me to keep going. Also not missing the wine.

6.    Kind of feeling hangry, and like on a camping trip; just thinking about my next meal. Made chicken fajitas in lettuce wraps.

7.    Church Covid week 47. Went in to church because my husband was opening the service.

8.    Botox at the pain clinic and grocery shopping. The price of food is so high now. Our granddaughter is four today. She is so spunky; she makes up words like scumpadoo (a rock you trip over) and Quebecking (putting a whole soother in your mouth), and she has imaginary friends named Butter and Yogurt, and she loves to sing songs from musicals.

9.    Pain clinic with my mom.

10. At home crocheting, napping, and doing virtual prayer meeting.

11. Women’s Bible study online, then chiro and massage. Busy day.

12. Catching up. I’ve been waiting weeks for white yarn as many of my projects were stymied without it. The one I ordered from Amazon six weeks ago still hasn’t arrived, I just got the Walmart order after four weeks, and the quickest one arrived from the U.S. after only one week. Filling out medical forms. Need to have the doctor fill the other one out by phone.

13. Family Day; no plans.

14. Covid week 48. Valentine’s Day, or Friendship Day in Finland. Did grocery shopping and got Greek take-out. I was able to eat a chicken souvlaki stick.

15. Shoveled the driveway and strained my back. Pain cream helps.

16. Today would have been my dad’s 82nd birthday. He was killed in a workplace accident at age 28. I’ll post a picture of him at age 16. Also the final day of chemo for my cousin with lung cancer.

17. Errands; bloodwork, dropping off a form at the doctor’s office, and picking up a prescription.

18. Final class on Proverbs with the women at church. Spoke tonight online for the women’s ministry; on strengthening marriage. It was well received.

19. Telephone doctor’s appointment to fill out forms to keep my pension accruing till 65.

20. Went to pick up the medical form the doctor said would be ready, but it wasn’t. So annoyed to have made the trip for nothing. Also picked up new cushions and throws for our family room couch. Changing the accent colour from robin’s egg blue to red and black.

21. Church in person again. Covid week 49.

22. Trying to get that form from my doctor again. Also talking to the doctor from the Dr. Bernstein diet.

23. Crocheting like I was getting paid for it, but I’m not.

24. Going to Hamilton overnight. I haven’t seen the grandkids in person since Christmas.

25. I had a great time seeing the grandkids again. We had school yesterday; featuring the letter Bb, the number 5, a popcorn experiment using all five senses, and a craft with tissue paper and glass jars and glue. I picked Ben up from school today.

26. Friday at home; my husband orders Pho Vietnamese soup for himself most Fridays for years. It’s his comfort food. I’d normally order in or we’d go out too but now I’m cooking my own food.

27. So far on this diet I’ve lost over 12 pounds in almost four weeks. I don’t snore anymore, I can sleep on my stomach, I sleep better, have more energy, and my skin is softer and fresher. Those are just the incidentals so far.

28. Church in person: Covid week 50. I did Dry Feb this month since I’m not allowed wine during this diet anyway. I did it! Although I enjoy the taste, I like knowing I’m not dependent on it, as there are many alcoholics in our family.
